Automotive grade refers to the components that meet the requirements of the vehicle grade. The AEC-Q series standards are the industry-recognized certification standards for automotive components.
The American Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) was established by General Motors, Ford and Chrysler to establish a set of general parts qualification and quality system standards.
The AEC members include OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), systen/module supplier (Tier 1), and component suppliers.
AEC-Q is suitable for certification of automotive chips, passive devices, discrete semiconductor devices, etc. There are different test standards for different devices, and different standards also correspond to different test items.

Most commonly referenced AEC documents are:

  • AEC-Q100: Failure Mechanism Based Stress Test Qualification For Integrated Circuits
  • AEC-Q101: Failure Mechanism Based Stress Test Qualification For Discrete Semiconductors
  • AEC-Q200: Stress Test Qualification For Passive Components
